How to Deal with Mold in Your Home

Mold exists virtually everywhere in the environment. It spreads by releasing spores and mycotoxins into the air. When these spores land on a damp, warm surface and have a food source (wood, drywall) they can quickly grow, sometimes within a day or two under favorable conditions.

Homes, especially those with moisture or humidity problems, often provide the perfect conditions for mold growth. Bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms are particularly vulnerable, but mold can also thrive in basements, crawl spaces and attics. Regularly inspect your home for signs of mold. If the mold contaminated area is under 10 square feet, you can handle the job yourself, go to epa.gov/mold for cleanup tips.
